(English)

The Islamic Republic of Iran has minefields spanning 250km².   These are spread across five provinces bordering Iraq.

The minefields are a legacy of the conflict between the two countries in the 1980s.

Cluster munitions used against oil facilities during this conflict have also left a legacy explosive remnant of war (ERW) threat.

While the Iranian government and its partners have made good progress, cluster munition contamination is still considered a possibility in some areas.

SafeLane has worked alongside national de-mining teams in a supervisory capacity.  It later returned to Iran on a battle area clearance (BAC) task in support of the oil and gas industry.
