Management Accountant (Part Qualified)

There's management accountancy - and then there is management accountancy working for a company that saves lives every day, will invest in your future and give you amazing coffee and occasional free food. If you want more than just a job, come and join the SafeLane family as a part-qualified Management Accountant and be responsible for the financial aspects of project control, working in conjunction with Operations Managers, Project Executives and on-site Project Teams all over the world.

As a part qualified Management Accountant, you can come and join the SafeLane family (where the finance team is a close knit fun lot) based out of our Ross-on-Wye HQ.

We will train you, we will fill you up with excellent coffee and good banter and in exchange you will:

  • Provide financial support, as part of a team, in the creation of project bids; confirming financial accuracy, adherence to local taxation and banking controls, providing financial scenarios, completing a range of simple to complex pricing tables.
  • Execute project financial controls on cash management and expenditure (don’t let anyone spend too much!)
  • Support the completion of the monthly funding cycle including reconciliation of field floats and communication with overseas banking providers.
  • Create monthly management accounts for individual projects within your portfolio.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis of project scenarios.
  • Reconcile key balance sheet accounts including project assets.
  • Ensure the completion of the monthly contractors payroll (they grumble if payments are delayed, be warned!)
  • Prepare year end and give support to the audit process in reference to project data.
  • Create and assist with project forecasting and planning.
  • Commit to continuous development and improvements on the financial processes.
  • Own your project portfolio, including the budgets and forecasts.
  • Ensure projects have access to cash with the relevant approval process.
  • Report on project performance including actual and forecast vs budget.
  • Create control spreadsheets and reconciliations to support operations project analysis.
  • Monthly and annual reporting to include year end and audit support.

That’s enough about the role – let’s talk about you!

You are part qualified (CIMA or ACCA at least stage 2) – and you are knowledgeable in the creation of management accounts from prime records, cashbooks, receipts, etc; accounting for all areas of P&L and balance sheet including taxation, direct and indirect; reporting on variance analysis; display strong excel skills (daily use including vlookups & pivot tables), strong interpersonal skills and are able to work as part of a really run team and independently.

Perhaps your CV will show the following (but if not, fear not, we’ll train you up!):

  • project accounting, including long term contract accounting
  • the creation of project bid costings and pricing scenarios
  • commercial awareness preparing bids
  • experience in operation of overseas banks and administration

This is a permanent role (37.5 hours per week) – based out of our Ross on Eye, Herefordshire office.

Our salary and benefits are brilliant (in our humble opinion!) – with benefits including hybrid working, 25days’ holiday + bank holidays; continuous training and development; discretionary bonus scheme; medical cash back plan; death in service scheme; family friendly and health and wellbeing policies; work life balance company culture; mental health first aiders and many more.

So – who IS your new employer?

SafeLane Global!

We are trusted to create safer spaces for clients and communities across the world.  Our expert staff detect, identify and mitigate potential threats on land and in water, and provide training and consultancy services to support the activities of governments, corporations and multinational organisations worldwide.  Wherever we go, we breathe new life into unsafe environments, and positively transform communities and the lives of those living and working within them.

What this actually translates to for the role you’ll fulfil is working in many former and current conflict zones and getting rid of the risk posed by explosive threats.  We might be deflagrating bombs in the Baltic, using dogs to sniff out explosives in Somalia or clearing ordnance enabling the creation of a new city in Kuwait.
