Trainee Land Surveyor (Geophysicist)

In our expanding market, we are seeking to appoint a Trainee Land Surveyor (Geophysicist) to collect, inspect, model and report on geophysical/geographical data collected across the company.

About our opportunity

This role will be based at our Gillingham, Kent location and will include hybrid working of 3 days within the office and 2 days working at home per week, as well as site work anywhere within the UK The will require you to work outdoors in all weathers and away from home, as well as attend office locations across the UK. There may be a requirement to work weekends and nights, occasionally.

Key tasks include:

  • Collect geophysical data (Magnetic primarily) and conduct initial QC of the data.
  • Process and report geophysical data in the aspect of Ordnance using propriety gridding and modelling software, AutoCAD, GIS Software and Microsoft Office.
  • Conduct technical input for project tenders jointly with the commercial department.
  • Produce and update GIS databases for field works.
  • Assist the group with their GIS needs and project support.
  • Supporting field staff with equipment troubleshooting.
  • Assist with the maintenance of geophysical/geographical equipment
  • Support with the development and improvements across the department and company through digitalisation.

About you

It is essential that you have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), the ability and willingness to work flexibly, a full UK driving licence, at least 1 year land surveying experience, and a qualification in surveying (or a relevant qualification that incorporates surveying).

This role would suit someone who is highly organised with the ability to hit the ground running within a high-pressured environment.

It will be beneficial if you have knowledge of Excel, Word, Oasis Montaj, Global Mapper, QGIS, AutoCAD;  experience with handling geophysical/geographical data; working across a wide variety of environments and on complex surveys and hold a geo-related degree, but not essential.
