Desktop assessment

SafeLane Global was awarded a contract to conduct an explosive ordnance desktop assessment to evaluate the potential risk/threat of ordnance in South Sudan for their end client, a leading oil company.

The areas of operation were Jonglei and Eastern Equatoria States in South Sudan.

The desktop assessment carried out research, analysed the evidence and considered the risks that certain sites had been contaminated with explosive remnants of war (ERW); that such items remained on site; that they could be encountered during any intrusive ground works and the consequences that could result.

Appropriate recommendations were then proposed.

Taking into consideration the findings of the study, SafeLane Global considered the site to be at medium to high risk from explosive remnants of war (ERW).

The following recommendations were put forward to the client; deployment of a team to conduct non-technical survey (NTS); deployment of a ERW safeguarding consultant; and the provision of unexploded ordnance site safety instructions.
